How are veganism and yoga connected?
‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’ constitute the foundations of yoga. The sutras cover what is known as the ‘Eight Limbs of Yoga’ which offers us guidance within our practice, both on and off the mat. The first limb is made up of the ‘Yamas’, moral values that guide to how we can best act towards ourselves, and the world around us.
The very first and often thought of as the most important Yama, is ‘Ahimsa’, which means ‘Non-violence’ or ‘non-harming’. My take on Ahimsa is to do my absolute best to live my life with as least harm as possible to all living beings.
My favourite sankrit mantra is "Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu' translating to "May all beings everywhere be happy and free from harm. May all my thoughts, words, and actions contribute in some way to that".
